IFToMM YFG Workshop Series – Kinematic Synthesis of Mechanisms Using Excel
IFToMM’s Young Faculty Group is a cross-disciplinary group pursuing IFToMM’s mission from within the working core of academia. By summoning young professors and lecturers from all over the world, the group aims at figuring out how to use mechanism and machine science to tackle the academic and technological challenges of the future. Therefore, we propose this webinar on Mechanism Synthesis Using Excel to spread the classic mechanism science using one of the simplest and well known software in the world. This webinar will be carried out on Sep. 30 and Oct. 1, 2024 in two sessions each day, from 10:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 17:00 UTC +3. The covered topics are Kinematic analysis of planar mechanisms (Analysis of single and multiple loop mechanisms in a stepwise procedure; use of Excel® macros for the analysis; iterative solution of mechanisms), Use of Excel solver tool for the optimization of mechanisms (Identifying design parameters in a mechanism; defining an optimization criterion; optimization of the mechanism using Excel® solver tool), Analytical method for two and three position synthesis (Chasles theorem; dyad formulation; moving and fixed pivot specifications; use of Excel® macros for two and three positions. Synthesis of mechanism for two and three positions), and Four position synthesis (Burmester theorem, analytical determination of circle and center points; use of Excel® macros for the determination of Burmester curves; synthesis for four positions). The addressed community is all IFToMM members that are interested in this topic, particularly young professors and students.
