Mission & Organization

The mission of the TC for Biomechanical Engineering is to promote and disseminate the mechanical approach in applications involving the study of biological systems. The cultural challenge is to apply the knowledge in the functioning and control of machines and mechanisms to the study of biological systems, with special regard to the human-machine interaction at all levels: mechanical, physiological, and even psychological.
Scholars in Biomechanical Engineering collaborate with researchers in medical, clinical, and physiological areas.
Biomechanical Engineering is declined into a variety of topics, for example (but not only) biomechanics of the human body, motion/equilibrium/postural analysis, articular kinematics, soft tissue mechanics, mechanics of fluid systems (cardio-circulatory, respiratory, …). The human-machine interaction comprises rehabilitation devices, orthoses, internal and external prostheses, exoskeletons, medical applications of robotics, robotic surgery, and haptic systems.
